Miami Lakes
Miami Lakes is a family oriented community designed so that many homes enjoy either lakefront living on more than 23 lakes or Don Shula’s golf course from their backyards. It is located north of Hialeah Gardens, south of Miami Gardens, and east to west between Opa-locka and Interstate-75 with approximately 30,000 residents. The community was incorporated on December 5th of 2000.
The history of Miami Lakes began in 1962, when Florida State Senator Ernest “Cap” Graham and his family owned the land and planned to develop what was their dairy farm. Graham planned the city development to take at least 30 years. The former Dean of the Harvard School of Architecture, Lester Collins, was responsible for creating the master plan of Miami Lakes that would eventually become what it is today, the center of the community. Collins created the foundation of the community, including its residential, industrial and commercial use.
