Homes for Sale in Miami Lakes

Miami Lakes is a family-oriented community known for its tree-lined streets, large estate lots, and tranquil suburban charm. Many homes enjoy lakefront views on more than 23 lakes or sit along Don Shula’s golf course, creating a unique blend of recreation and natural scenery. The town is located north of Hialeah Gardens, south of Miami Gardens, and stretches east to west between Opa-locka and Interstate-75. It is home to roughly 30,000 residents and was officially incorporated on December 5, 2000.

The area’s history dates back to 1962, when Florida State Senator Ernest “Cap” Graham and his family began developing their former dairy farm. The vision for Miami Lakes was a 30-year master-planned community, designed with the help of Lester Collins, then Dean of the Harvard School of Architecture. Collins’ plan established a thoughtful balance of residential, commercial, and industrial areas that continues to define Miami Lakes today.

Recreation is central to community life. Royal Oaks Park features athletic fields, picnic pavilions, a playground, bike trail, concession stand, and butterfly garden, while Miami Lakes Optimist Park offers extensive facilities including baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields, outdoor courts, batting cages, and even a small marina for public fishing. In addition, numerous mini-parks are scattered throughout the neighborhoods, providing green space within walking distance of most homes.

Education is served by a mix of public and private schools. Public options include Barbara Goleman Senior High, Miami Lakes K-8 Center, Miami Lakes Middle, and Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High. Private schools such as Our Lady of the Lakes and Dade Christian add further choice for families.

Today, Miami Lakes is recognized as one of South Florida’s most charming suburban communities. With its low crime rate, cultural diversity, community activities, and a lively local dining and nightlife scene, the town offers residents an inviting balance of small-town feel and modern convenience.
